A Girl in the White Dress Wedding

The Girl in the White Dress is planning an intimate, deeply personal wedding. She’s invited only a few people – close friends and family who know her well and know her real. She wants her day to be as relaxed as possible so that she can enjoy every minute of it.

She wants a scenic outdoor wedding – or a wedding in a venue that lets all the light in. She wants sunlit wedding photos and a fresh, natural look for her creative, classy details, so most of her photography will take place between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

She isn’t bound to tradition – she wants her wedding to be unique. She uses natural elements and a simple, surprising color palette to create a charming, welcoming atmosphere for her day.

Her day in the white dress will be the most beautiful day of her life, and she wants to remember it with all the sweetness of all the dreams that she poured into it.

From the Photographer:

I make an effort to spend time with every bride before her wedding to find out what she is dreaming, building a relationship that allows me to attend the wedding as a friend and advocate. I look at her Pinterest boards and inspiration, talk about how to schedule the day to get the best photos possible, and offer support for the things that are most important to her.

I like to arrive early at the wedding venue, scout potential shoot locations, and capture early moments with the bride and groom. I highly recommend a “first look” session once the bride is dressed to give my couples an hour or so just for them and to minimize the photo time between the ceremony and reception. At weddings, I shoot a documentary style with an editorial eye, looking both for real moments and for fine art details to capture the essence of the day.

My focus is always on the heart of the couple and their love for one another. My goal is to produce and deliver images that communicate the most meaningful elements of the day.

Engagement: Matt & Kelly

I think God must have decided somewhere early on that Matt and Kelly were meant for one another – God and most of their friends and coworkers. Matt’s friends told him he had to see this pretty girl; her friends practically forced her to go meet him. As Matt was leaving Kelly’s office on the day they met, her coworker slipped him Kelly’s number, but Matt called honorably the next day to ask her for it directly. Over the course of several years and several break-ups, their hearts became deeply entwined until neither could imagine life without the other. Matt proposed over Thanksgiving last year, with all their family gathered around.

Matt and Kelly blew me away with their spring-themed session, shot on a cool January day. Matt’s quiet, solid strength offers the perfect stay for Kelly’s brightly passionate approach to life. I love how he sees her – and how she just keeps falling back in love with him. They have a fun romance, a sweet, hopeful love that has grown deep through the seasons of their relationship. The intimacy that they share in the littlest things made this simple shoot an absolute joy.

Preview: Her First Love

I spent my Saturday morning fighting gnats, waiting for sunlight, and photographing pretty. The sweet fun we had at this “First Love” editorial shoot gave me some of the best shots I have ever captured. I cannot wait for the full reveal!

The Girl, the Red, the Hat

Put together a sweet spot in the light, a sundress in thrifted red rose toile, and a wide-brimmed hat that fits, and you get a total photo op. At least I did. I’ve been having fun with these this week…

Wedding Slideshow: Ben & Allie

In honor of Ben and Allie’s publication at The Wedding Row Charlotte, I’m posting their super-special slideshow. I love this couple. I just do. Click on the image to watch – you’ll love them too!

Preview: Matt & Kelly, Engaged

We had our first official shoot of 2012 yesterday, an “early spring” shoot in January that one can only get away with in Charleston. We were shooting just as a cold front was coming in, so we had a very cold wind pushing through the shoot, but we got just enough sun to add a little gorgeous light to these images. Kelly picked her details perfectly, and we even had a sweet picnic – I cannot wait to share more of this gorgeous session!

Headshots: Meet Kelly Sauer

I hit a sweet spot with the light yesterday when I hired myself to create some new headshots. I included some of the mirror framing and followed it all up with some different processing, and voila – some of my favorite images ever. (In spite of the fact that they are self-portraits. You have to forgive that part, k?)

Mood Board: The Light Hydrangea

My favorite flower used to be lilacs, but as I’ve grown up and grown allergies, I’ve had to look at other flowers to love. You’ll probably guess that I’ve settled rather obviously on lavender and hydrangeas. And peonies – they’re making a strong case for a new favorite too. Okay, so I like flowers. And I love the way the multifaceted petals in lilacs and hydrangeas make complete magic with the light, which is something else I love. I’m getting lost in here. It’s a good thing.

My settings for these next few were a little different – I completely love the way they came out – utterly classic, almost painted.

Piper Joelle

The Girl in the White Dress was born out of this little shoot I did with my daughter a few weeks ago. Piper is the original inspiration for this subset of Kelly Sauer, Ltd. Co.. Hers are the eyes that wake my eyes up, hers is the sweet innocent beauty I seek behind my lens, no matter what I’m shooting. She is my girl in the white dress, always reminding me to keep dreaming, keep growing, keep loving.
